Product Overview

INDIAN RICE EXPORTS โ€” A GLOBAL STAPLE

Rice is one of the most popular and widely consumed staple foods on the planet. It is consumed extensively in Asia and Africa and is the agricultural commodity with the third-highest production in the world. As a leading manufacturer and exporter in India, IndianXporter specializes in the bulk export of premium Indian rice to destinations worldwide.

RICE VARIETIES WE EXPORT

While there are around 40,000 varieties of rice found across the world, we broadly export two primary categories: Basmati and Non-Basmati. Under these two broad umbrellas, we supply an extensive range of grades and varieties to meet diverse culinary and industrial needs.

BASMATI RICE

Basmati rice is an iconic variety indigenous to the Indian subcontinent. It is renowned for its long, slender grains and a highly distinctive aroma. Popular across the globe for its unique flavor profile, it is widely used in premium dishes such as biryani and pilaf. India remains one of the world's largest exporters of authentic Basmati rice.

1121 BASMATI RICE

Pusa Basmati 1121 is a premium hybrid variety sharing quality traits with traditional Basmati 370 and Type 3. Commercially cultivated since 2003, it features extra-long slender milled grains, a pleasant aroma, volume expansion of over four times upon cooking, an appealing taste, excellent mouthfeel, and easy digestibility.

TRADITIONAL BASMATI RICE

Traditional types include Basmati 370, Basmati 385, and Basmati Ranbirsinghpura. Available in both Parboiled and Raw forms, this category is favored by chefs for Continental, Indian, Mughlai, and Chinese cuisines.

GOLDEN SELLA BASMATI RICE

The parboiling process helps the grain retain more vitamins and minerals from the original bran. It guarantees a firm grain upon cooking that won't turn mushy. Parboiled Basmati is cholesterol and gluten-free, low in sodium, and provides complex carbohydrates for sustained energy.

SUGANDHA BASMATI RICE

Sugandha is a highly cost-effective, long-grain basmati cultivated in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. It offers a great fragrance and cooks into separate, non-sticky grains. While slightly shorter than 1121 Basmati, it can extend up to twice its length when properly cooked.

SHARBATI BASMATI RICE

Sharbati is a hybrid of Traditional Basmati. While it lacks a distinct aroma, its cooking profile is identical to standard Basmati. It features an average grain length of 7.1mm to 7.2mm.

NON-BASMATI RICE

All other varieties fall under the Non-Basmati category. This encompasses a vast array of shapes and sizesโ€”from long and slender to short and thick. Non-Basmati rice is heavily exported for both daily household consumption and bulk commercial use.

PARBOILED RICE

Parboiled rice has been partially boiled in its husk (soaking, steaming, and drying). This process drives nutrients from the bran into the grain, changes the texture to be firmer, and makes the rice highly resistant to weevils.

BROKEN RICE

Broken rice is simply fragments of whole rice grains broken during processing or transport. It is equally nutritious and highly versatile, often sorted by size (e.g., 100% Broken) and used extensively in commercial food manufacturing and brewing.

SWARNA RICE

Swarna is considered one of the healthiest rice choices available. Grown extensively across India, it boasts a low glycemic index, making it an excellent dietary choice for reducing diabetes risks.

SONA MASOORI RICE

Sona Masoori is a lightweight, aromatic medium-grain rice grown primarily in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka. Translating literally to "Golden Ivy," this premium variety is highly sought after and exported heavily to the USA, Canada, Europe, Malaysia, and the Middle East.

As a leading manufacturer and exporter in India, IndianXporter ensures that our Premium Indian Rice meets the stringent quality requirements of international markets. Our robust supply chain allows us to fulfill bulk orders consistently, offering highly competitive FOB and CIF pricing to our B2B partners worldwide.

Our processing facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, ensuring that every shipment of Premium Indian Rice is thoroughly sorted, cleaned, and graded. We adhere to global food safety and industrial standards, backed by third-party inspections from agencies like SGS upon buyer request.

What is Premium Indian Rice?

Rice (Oryza sativa) is the world's most consumed staple food, feeding over half the global population. India is the world's largest rice producer (~180M MT) and the dominant exporter (~40โ€“45M MT), trading across two broad categories โ€” aromatic long-grain Basmati and a vast range of Non-Basmati varieties for daily and commercial consumption.

Basmati, indigenous to the Indian subcontinent, is prized for its extra-long slender grains, distinctive aroma and dramatic cooking elongation. Premium varieties like Pusa 1121 expand to over four times their length, while traditional and Sella (parboiled) grades serve premium biryani, pilaf and food-service markets. Non-Basmati rice โ€” including Sona Masoori, Swarna, Parboiled and Broken โ€” supplies high-volume household, processing and brewing demand.

Globally, India differentiates on Basmati authenticity, aged-rice premiums, grain length and broken-percentage control, plus deep diaspora loyalty. Quality grading hinges on grain length, broken percentage, moisture and purity โ€” with aged basmati commanding the strongest premiums in the export trade.

Major non-basmati exporters

Lead the long-grain and jasmine non-basmati segments India competes against on volume.

Key Consumption Nodes

Middle East โ€” Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iraq, Iran

The largest premium basmati market globally, with deep biryani and pilaf demand and strong aged-rice preference.

Sub-Saharan & West Africa

High-volume importers of parboiled and broken non-basmati rice as a daily staple.

USA, UK & Canada (Diaspora)

Strong South Asian diaspora retail plus premium aromatic and organic rice demand; EU MRL compliance is decisive.

Southeast Asia โ€” Bangladesh, Nepal

Regional staple demand met by short-haul Indian shipments across both basmati and non-basmati.

Market Intelligence

Rice is the world's most consumed staple food, with global trade valued at approximately $15-18 billion annually. India is the world's largest rice producer (~180-185 million metric tons) and the dominant exporter (~40-45 million metric tons annually), leveraging diverse cultivation zones and established milling and processing infrastructure. The market encompasses both staple varieties (long-grain non-basmati) and premium segments (Basmati, specialty). India commands approximately 40-50% of global rice export volume and a significant share of premium Basmati export value.

Market Size

Global rice trade: ~$15-18B annually; India's rice export value: ~$8-10B (growing 3-5% YoY)

Growth Rate

~3-5% CAGR โ€” driven by emerging market population growth, increasing protein diversification, specialty rice demand (organic, health-focused varieties), and premium Basmati segment expansion

Core Demand Drivers

  • Global staple food consumption โ€” rice is primary staple for ~3 billion people, driving consistent high-volume demand across Asia, Africa, and emerging markets
  • Premium Basmati market expansion โ€” affluent consumers and restaurants globally seek authentic Indian Basmati for premium rice dishes and celebrations
  • Health-conscious rice varieties โ€” brown rice, parboiled rice, specialty varieties appeal to health-conscious consumers in developed markets
  • Emerging market population growth and income rise โ€” increasing per-capita consumption in South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Africa drives volume growth
  • Food industry and food processing โ€” rice is essential ingredient in packaged foods, cereals, and ready-to-eat products globally

Supply Dynamics

India's rice production is distributed across major rice-growing regions: Punjab (basmati), Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. Two main harvest seasons (kharif in September-December and rabi in February-May) enable year-round supply. Established milling and processing infrastructure is concentrated in Punjab, Gujarat, and port cities. Global supply is relatively stable with government procurement programs supporting farmer welfare.

โš  India Risk Factor

Global rice commodity pricing is volatile, affected by weather, production cycles in major exporting nations. Competition from Vietnam, Thailand, and Bangladesh pressures pricing in non-basmati segments. Climate-related disruptions (monsoon variation, drought) can affect harvest quality and volume. Trade restrictions and tariffs (particularly on basmati from some countries) can limit market access.

Future Outlook

Premium Basmati positioning and aged varieties (2+ years) will command 30-50% premiums. Organic, pesticide-free, and specialty rice varieties (red rice, aromatic non-basmati) will expand addressable market. Value-added products (rice flour, rice bran, rice oil) will drive margin expansion. Direct supply agreements with food manufacturers and direct-to-consumer channels will improve pricing and brand building.
